A new Kansas law bars students from accessing phones, earbuds and smartwatches all school day, while one parent group is pushing for tighter iPad limits

Many states are banning smartphones in schools due to growing distractions and health concerns. Some districts now restrict student phone access from morning bell to afternoon dismissal. Parents are increasingly supporting these bans, citing research and developmental appropriateness. Concerns also focus on excessive screen time and inappropriate content accessed on school devices. Schools are now reviewing technology policies and limiting device usage during non-instructional periods.
