Highway 141 takes Missouri family’s 15 acres; how $238,000 offer became $2.1 million

A Missouri family’s 15-acre property, bought in 1904, became the centre of a long eminent domain dispute after St. Louis County acquired it for a highway project. A jury valued the land at $1.3 million, while the court added $650,000 in heritage value and interest, taking the judgment to about $2.1 million. The Missouri Supreme Court later upheld the award.
