Archaeologists discovered two skeletons in an embrace within Romito Cave over twelve thousand years ago. Genetic analysis revealed these individuals were both female and closely related, likely mother and daughter. The younger skeleton showed a rare inherited disorder affecting growth and limb development. This finding confirms the existence of genetic diseases in ancient human populations. The discovery also suggests prehistoric communities provided care for individuals with physical limitations.
